Lead work and rolled lead remain the materials of choice for weathering the joints, abutments and junctions on any pitched or flat roof, and Brian Gow Roofing Supplies stocks BBA-approved milled lead sheet made to BS EN 12588 at all four of our depots. We carry code 3 through to code 6 in widths from 150mm up to 1200mm, ready to collect from your nearest branch or delivered across Kent, Surrey, Sussex and the wider South East. Roofers and homeowners buy from the same stock, so the lead on a small porch flashing is the same grade as the lead running a full valley.
Rolled lead sheet stocked at Brian Gow
Our lead is milled sheet, not cast or a cheaper flashing substitute, and every roll carries BBA approval against BS EN 12588. It is the material specified for traditional detailing and the one most architects and building control officers expect to see. As an independent, family-run merchant established in 1996, we keep the working codes in stock rather than ordering them in each time:
- Milled lead sheet in codes 3, 4, 5 and 6
- Widths from 150mm to 1200mm to suit soakers, flashings, valleys and gutters
- Full rolls for larger contracts and cut lengths for smaller repairs
- Special cut sizes to order, normally delivered within one week
Lead codes and typical uses
Lead is graded by code, and each code has a standard colour marking and thickness under BS EN 12588. The heavier the code, the thicker the sheet and the more demanding the detail it suits.
| Code | Colour marking | Approx. thickness | Common uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Code 3 | Green | 1.32mm | Soakers, secret gutters, lighter flashings |
| Code 4 | Blue | 1.80mm | General-purpose flashings and soakers |
| Code 5 | Red | 2.24mm | Flashings, valleys, chimney and gutter work |
| Code 6 | Black | 2.65mm | Valleys, gutters and heavier flashing details |
If you are unsure which code a job calls for, our guide to lead flashing codes explained sets out the differences, or the counter team at any branch will talk it through with you.
In-house lead cutting to the nearest metre
Here is something very few merchants offer: we cut lead in house to the nearest metre, so you buy the length the job needs instead of a full roll you do not. That keeps waste and cost down on smaller jobs and saves you cutting a roll down on site. For anything non-standard, special cut sizes can be ordered and are normally delivered within a week. Tell us the code, width and length and we will have it ready to collect or send out.
Lead sundries and fixings
A lead detail needs more than the sheet, so we carry a full range of lead sundries alongside the rolls:
- Patination oil to protect new lead and reduce early white staining
- Lead sealant for sound, weathertight joints and upstands
- Lead clips and fixings to hold and secure the finished work
Order the sheet and the sundries together and pick the lot up in one trip, or have it delivered as a single order.
Collect from a depot or get it delivered

Frequently asked questions
Is your milled lead sheet BBA approved?
Yes. We stock milled lead sheet that is BBA approved and manufactured to BS EN 12588, in codes 3 to 6 and widths from 150mm to 1200mm. It is the grade specified for traditional flashing and valley detailing.
Which lead code do I need?
It depends on the detail. Codes 3 and 4 are common for soakers and general flashings, while codes 5 and 6 suit valleys, gutters and heavier chimney work. Our lead flashing codes guide explains the differences, and the team at any branch can advise on your job.
Can you cut lead to length?
We do. We run an in-house cutting service to the nearest metre, which few suppliers offer, so you only pay for the length you need. Special cut sizes can be ordered and are normally delivered within one week.
Can I collect lead or do you deliver?
Both. You can collect from any of our four depots across Kent, Surrey and Sussex, or we can deliver your lead and sundries across the South East. Request a quote or call your nearest depot to arrange it.
